If you can DREAM it you can ACHIEVE it, EDUCATION is the KEY to life
Larry Legend’s DREAMS Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit organization that uses basketball as its primary vehicle to connect with and educate youth.
Renowned streetball player Lawrence “Larry Legend” Gadsden began acting as a mentor to neighborhood youth in the early 1990s.
At the same time, he led several community events while working with local organizations in Charleston, SC and New York City.
In the summer of 1997, Larry Legend founded Larry Legend’s DREAMS when he ambitiously put together a basketball tournament for his South Bronx neighborhood.
The tournament was a remarkable success as more than 260 youth participated in it each weekend.
Larry Legend DREAMS followed this success with an all year program that included the “Back to School Rally”,
holiday visits to local hospitals, coaching local and travelling basketball teams, and, of course, more basketball tournaments.
In 2010, Larry Legend’s eldest daughter had an altercation with a male bully in her school.
This situation helped make it clear that bullying is a problem.
Larry Legend’s DREAMS create its anti-bullying campaign in response.
Larry Legend’s DREAMS has made bullying prevention and education the theme for a host of events including “Back to School Rallies” (where book supplies are handed out to families),
all-star basketball games, and Larry Legend in-school student-teacher events.
Larry Legend’s DREAMS is currently located in several regions with its South Carolina base headed by Sedric Webber,
its North Carolina base headed by David Dicks, and Larry Legend working closely with his hometown New York, as well as Connecticut, Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, and Iowa.
Larry Legend’s DREAMS also is planning on scheduling visits to Tennessee and Dallas.
